Servetome playlist order remote12/20/2023 That's neat, and I like that I can run it on desktop/laptop AND mobile. But whenever I do Warframe stuff like slide around and hit a bunch of keys, it somehow triggers Plexamp to rise to the front and center and there's no way to change whatever hot keys that I'm activating by accident. And it is: zero frame rate spikes and I can hear the in game sounds. So I thought Plex Amp might be the best of both worlds. (Maybe I have it configured wrong I do have it set up to do 5.1 for video which makes some stuff more complicated when you're not doing 5.1 with it.) Playing music through Plex in Chrome takes up an unnecessary amount of cpu cycles where I actually notice a frame rate drop every so often in stuff like Warframe.Ĭonversely, Plex Media Player doesn't do that but it cuts off sound from other apps while it's running so I miss out on my Pew-Pews in the game. I'm not really in need of reliving my Winamp glory days but I was looking for something to play music while I'm running games on my potato. I gave it a whirl on my PC the other day. It's a micro player for your plex account. It's a bit memory expensive (at 800Mb it's significant as the Proliant just has 4Gb) and I don't transcode, but I think it's worth it. I threw it on my home Proliant Microserver running Debian which hosts all my media. I finally got round to doing it because I was tired of having to redo stuff when installing/reinstalling Kodi for whatever reason. It's really nice, integrates with my TVHeadend DVB-T setup, my Kodi instances (Android TV and LibreElec on a Raspberry Pi) can connect to it well and the Android and web apps are nice. And the videos that Plex has been behaving badly with, have been working reliably under Emby. The UI isn't as nice, but it's generally good enough for my users. Small things like this, and the downtime with authorization recently has actually caused me to give Emby more of a try. It sorta seems like it's the client side software that varies in quality, but it's hard to tell which end is actually the problem. I've run into this more, recently, like the last 6 months or so. I posted earlier in this thread about it stopping streaming playback within my house sometimes. My main issue with Plex is how it handles certain codecs. Both have their drawbacks, but Plex has been far easier to navigate for family members. Having used both, I personally prefer Plex's UI over Kodi. Currently using it for movie/TV show streaming, live TV, DVR, and music, all hosted locally. With SMB shares and Kodi, I'd have to update the library on each independently to pick up changes. We're up to 3 player boxes (2 Shields and a FireTV), 2 phones, and 2 PCs with Plex apps, and doing any media management once and having it carry over to all devices is nice. You're missing the benefit of a server-based setup like Plex here when you get beyond a single player. Both can play your files directly from a SMB share and you don't need to run a separate server. Well you wouldn't need to tag or remux your files, Plex Media Server will automatically download all necessary metadata, subtitles, etc, and can transcode as necessary.īut if you aren't streaming your media outside your LAN, I would suggest a local media player like Kodi or (since Kodi isn't allowed on the appstore) MrMC. The thing that I miss in Plex vs Emby isn't even a Plex thing. That kinda came to a head when Plex started pushing all that other content and really highlighted that those accounts you asked people to create aren't your users. You actually have local accounts that work fine. And it fixes addresses the problem of Plex auth servers being down preventing you from using it, and asking anyone you want to add to your server to make an account with Plex. It's been "good enough" so far, although the UI isn't as slick as the Plex one. They've actually had several downtimes over the last 3-4 months? A lot of people, myself included, put our own mitigation plan into place by running Jellyfin or Emby side-by-side with Plex. I guess this is for their own streaming content, not for private libraries? Neither local nor remote content had any issues. I never saw any issues a couple days ago, when the problems were occuring. Those plans are being implemented as we speak.
